Kenya Police FC set to wrap up business against Mogadishu City in CAF CL

Posted on 28 September 2025

  • Kenya Police FC will host Mogadishu City in the second leg of the CAF Champions League 2025/26 first preliminary round.
  • The match is scheduled for 4:00 PM EAT at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
  • Kenya Police won the first leg 1-3, also played at the same venue.

Kenya Police FC, the reigning Kenya Premier League champions, will be aiming to complete the task at hand as they host Mogadishu City in the second leg of the CAF Champions League’s first preliminary round for the 2025/26 season.

The return fixture is scheduled for today, Sunday, September 28, at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium, with a 4:00 PM EAT kick-off.

The two sides already met at the same venue last weekend, with the law enforcers enjoying the away-leg advantage as Mogadishu were considered the hosts with Kenya Police cruised to an impressive 3-1 victory in that encounter.

Eric Zakayo opened the scoring in the first half before the Somali side equalized after the break through Issa Adim Marsis. Edward Omondi then restored Police’s lead, with David Simiyu cementing the win by adding a third.

Bolstered by that result, Etienne Ndayiragije’s squad will be seeking to assert their dominance once more today and clinch a place in the next round.

As this is their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League, they are determined to advance beyond the preliminary stage, aiming to better their performance from last season’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Kenya Police FC remain cautious of Mogadishu City threat

Ahead of today’s clash, Kenya Police captain David “Cheche” Owino has stated that his team will not become complacent despite their lead, acknowledging the threat their opponents pose and vowing to fight until the very end.

“The game is not over until the final whistle,” stated Captain Owino. “We will keep on fighting because this is football. It’s upon us to finish the job on Sunday, as they are capable of turning things around.”

Meanwhile, head coach Ndayiragije affirmed that he will not be taking any risks, emphasizing that Mogadishu is a tactically disciplined side.

“You might think they are underdogs, but they are not. They are a strong side, they held Sudanese giants Al Alhi to a draw, which shows their quality,” Ndayiragije explained. “They are a team that can surprise you on the counter-attack, so we are approaching this leg with the utmost respect and awareness.”
