KCB smash Oilers to clinch Christie 7s 2025 title

Posted on 18 August 2025

  • KCB smash Oilers to clinch Christie 7s 2025 title on Sunday, August 17, at the RFUEA Grounds.
  • A decisive brace from Floyd Wabwire, along with a try by Festus Shiasi, powered the Bankers to a commanding victory.
  • The SportPesa National Sevens Circuit now moves to Embu County for the Embu 7s, set for August 23rd–24th.

A rain-soaked RFUEA grounds saw KCB Rugby clinch their second title of the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit after beating Menengai Oilers 19-5 on Sunday evening in the third leg, the Christie 7s.

Having lost the finals of the Prinsloo 7s to Strathmore Leos, the Bankers regrouped with renewed determination, aiming for nothing less than a trophy in this leg of the tournament, especially with their formidable squad that has been exceptional in the previous three outings.

A decisive brace from Floyd Wabwire, coupled with a try by Festus Shiasi, propelled them to victory.

Brian Wahinya added two conversions, ensuring Samuel Ovwamu’s solo effort for the Oilers wasn’t enough to secure their maiden title of the season.

Nonetheless, it was a marked improvement for Geoffrey Ominde’s charges, who had finished fifth in the Driftwood 7s.

They stepped up to fourth in the Prinsloo 7s, and now secured a podium finish in second place, earning crucial points that could see them rise to third overall in the standings.

Impala also displayed solid form, overpowering Nondies 31-12 to secure fifth place.

Following a successful Christie 7s, which marked the 59th edition of the prestigious tournament, the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit now heads to Embu County next weekend for the Embu 7s, scheduled for August 23rd to 24th.
