- Harambee Starlets have secured back-to-back victories: a 0-3 win over Burundi and a 4-0 triumph against Uganda.
Following a seemless start to the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship with back-to-back victories and clean sheets, Kenya’s Harambee Starlets, will be looking to maintain their momentum when they face South Sudan on Thursday evening, June 19.
The fixture is set to kick off at 4:00 PM at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Riding high on confidence, the Starlets come into this clash following a commanding 0-3 win over Burundi in their tournament opener last Sunday.
They then went on to demolish Uganda 4-0 on Tuesday night in a dominant display.
In the match against Uganda, Diana Wacera opened the scoring, Dorcas Shikobe doubled the advantage, and Violet Nanjala netted the third – all within the first half.

Martha Amunyolet rounded off the emphatic win with a fourth in the second half, marking her third goal of the tournament and reinforcing Kenya’s superiority over Uganda, a team they last lost to in 2018.
As a result, the Starlets sit second in the standings with six points, level with hosts Tanzania but boasting a superior goal difference, with both teams having played two matches.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s opponents, South Sudan, remain the only winless team in the tournament, languishing at the bottom of the table after suffering two heavy defeats.
Their campaign began with a 4-0 loss to Tanzania’s Twiga Stars, followed by a humbling 5-0 defeat at the hands of Uganda.
Simon James Yor’s side will be desperate to salvage pride and put in a more resilient performance against a formidable Kenyan outfit led by head coach Beldine Odemba.

Tactical adjustments & squad rotation expected for Harambee Starlets
With the tournament serving as preparation for the upcoming Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gambia in August, head coach Beldine Odemba made six tactical adjustments to to her starting eleven between the first and second matches.
Further rotations are expected in this match to ensure all 19 squad members gain valuable playing time, as assistant coach Godfrey Oduor emphasized.
We have 19 players, and it is wise to allow every player to play, and you might see a rotation in the next match,” he revealed as per Pulse Sport.
The squad depth at the moment is not satisfactory because we have players who have been in action in the two matches so far.”
Harambee Starlets vs South Sudan h2h
South Sudan are no strangers to the Harambee Starlets, as this marks their third encounter since 2016.
Their most recent meetings occurred during the 2021 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, where Kenya dominated both legs thrashing them 8-0 in the first leg before dismantling them 7-1 in the second, one of their most emphatic victories in history.
Given their past performances and current form, Kenya enters the match as firm favourites and will be aiming to reclaim the CECAFA title they last lifted in 2019 under then-head coach David Ouma, when they defeated Tanzania 2-0 in the final.
