  • Gor Mahia edge struggling Sofapaka to open a points gap in the title race against AFC Leopards in the 2025/26 SportPesa League.
  • The 3–0 victory was recorded on Saturday, January 31, at Nyayo Stadium.
  • Frank Odhiambo opened the scoring before Sylvester Owino doubled the lead, while Ebenezer Aduk-waw sealed the win from the penalty spot with the final goal.

Record champions Gor Mahia solidified their grip at the summit of the SportPesa League table, dismantling a struggling Sofapaka FC 3-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday Afternoon.

A clinical first-half performance saw the league leaders capitalize on defensive lapses by Batoto Ba Mungu, effectively ending the contest before the halftime whistle with three first half goals from Ebenezer Adukwaw, Sylvester Owino and Frank Odhiambo who scored on his first start since returning to the club.

The win moves Gor Mahia to 39 points, creating a four-point cushion over rivals AFC Leopards.

Gor Mahia edge struggling Sofapaka 3-0

Gor Mahia made three changes to the starting XI introducing Frank Odhiambo in central defence for his first start in place of Mike Kibwage, George Amonoo for the suspended Alpha Onyango and Patrick Essombe in attack with Chris Ochieng out.

Ezekiel Akwana on his part brought on Yassin Rajab,Meshach Ochieno,Dancan Otieno, Emmanuel Otieno Clifton Miheso and
Adrian Oloo for Emmanuel Otieno, Ronald Musumba, Adrian Oloo,Japhet Mzungu and Andrew Wasswa.

K’Ogalo took the lead after 15 minutes thanks to a Enock Morrison throwball that found Frank Odhiambo who headed it home.

Sofapaka would respond almost immediately through Musa Ndusha but his free kick was parried away for a corner. The resultant corner saw Shariff Musa engineer a corner that almost doubled the scores.

The record champions would make it two from close range as Jackson Dwang pinpoint pass found Owino who headed it home.

The home side were dealt a huge blow as Patrick Essombe was withdrawn due to injury with Ebenezer Assifuah replacing home.

Gor made it three minutes later from a spot kick after Shariff Musa was fouled in the box. Aduk-waw slotted home comfortably to triple the lead heading into halftime.

The second half started with a double substitution from Sofapaka, Meshach Ochieno and Tyrone Kariuki went out for Joseph Kuloba and Japheth Lihanda.

The most notable moment of the second half came as Lewis Bandi was introduced for his debut with head coach Charles Akonnor withdrawing Paul Ochuoga at right back.

With the win K’Ogalo open a four point gap over rivals Leopards who did not feature due to Nairobi United commitments with the CAF Inter Club Competitions.

Gor are now assured of atleast a two week lead at the summit as the league takes a one week break to pave way for the FKF Cup round of 64 matches.
