Nairobi United supporters, who had earlier been seen throwing flares and smoke bombs towards Gor Mahia players, turned their attention to the stands occupied by Gor Mahia fans.

Projectiles were thrown across sections of the stadium, triggering panic, confrontations, and a breakdown of order that made it impossible for the match to continue.

Match officials, following consultations with security personnel, had little option but to abandon the fixture as the situation deteriorated.

Players from both teams were ushered off the pitch for their safety, bringing an abrupt end to what had been an intense and competitive contest.

In response, FKF issued a statement on December 21, 2025, strongly condemning the acts of hooliganism that led to the abandonment.

The federation described the behaviour as unacceptable and contrary to the values and spirit of Kenyan football, warning that such incidents threaten the progress being made to professionalise the local game.

FKF confirmed that the matter has been formally referred to its judicial bodies for determination. Both clubs, along with match officials, have been instructed to submit detailed reports to aid the disciplinary process.

In parallel, the federation noted that criminal investigations by relevant authorities are expected to take their course to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

The federation also expressed concern over damage caused to Azam TV equipment during the disturbances.

FKF emphasized the critical role broadcast partners play in growing the league and stressed that their safety, alongside that of fans, players, and officials, must be guaranteed on matchdays.

“Incidents of this nature undermine the integrity of the league, damage its public image, and erode confidence among fans, sponsors, broadcasters, and investors,” FKF stated, warning that continued disorder risks undoing the gains achieved in recent seasons.

As investigations continue, attention will turn to FKF’s judicial bodies, whose verdict could include sanctions such as fines, points deductions, closed-door matches, or other penalties in line with federation regulations.

Beyond punishment, the incident has reignited debate around crowd control, matchday security, and fan responsibility, particularly during high-profile league fixtures.
