Birthday girl Mary Moraa shines at Stockholm Diamond League 2025

  • Mary Moraa clocked 1:57.83 to finish second in the 800m race at the Stockholm Diamond League 2025.
  • Moraa slowed down at the final stages of the race to allow Great Britain’s Georgia Hunter Bell to beat her.
  • This was the first Diamond League showdown for Moraa in the 2025 season.

World champion Mary Moraa celebrated her birthday in style, finishing second at the Stockholm Diamond League 2025 title in a spectacular fashion.

Moraa, who has had a slow start to the 2025 season, was beaten at the closing stages of the race by Great Britain’s Georgia Hunter Bell.

Bell cross the finishing line in 1:57.66 with Moraa following her closely in a time of 1:57.83.

The third, fourth and fifth positions went to South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso (1:58.00), Switzerland’s Audrey Werro (1:58.35) and Bell’s fellow country woman Jemma Reekie (1:58.66).

Mondo Duplantis breaks world record at Stockholm Diamond League 2025

Meanwhile, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis registered an impressive jump of 6.28 meters to break his own world record at the Stockholm Diamond League 2025.

Duplantis ripped his shirt off immediately after achieving the incredible feat and went straight to his family to celebrate with them.

Julien Alfred wins 100m women’s race at Stockholm Diamond League 2025

In another race, St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred produced a commanding display to win the 100m women’s title.

Alfred crossed the finishing line in an impressive time of 10.75 seconds to break 31-year-old Stockholm Diamond League meeting record that was set by Russia’s Irina Privalova.

The time that the 2024 Paris Olympic Games champion clocked, was also the second fastest of her career.

Alfred was followed by her training mate Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain and Ivorian Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith, who stopped the clock at 10:93 seconds and 11:00 seconds respectively.

The Stockholm Diamond League 2025 performance is expected to improve Moraa’s confidence ahead of upcoming races including the World Athletics Championships that will take place in Tokyo, Japan in September.
