CPI rose 4% in August

Inflation rose 4% year-on-year in August after rising 3.3% in July, according to the latest Statistics Canada data released Tuesday.

The acceleration in growth was largely due to the year-on-year increase in gasoline prices in August (+0.8%) compared to July (-12.9%).

Price increases at grocery stores slowed in August from a year ago but remained high. Year-on-year, prices for food purchased in stores rose 6.9% in August after rising 8.5% in July.
