The Quebec Status of Women Council is releasing a comic to talk about gender equality and break gender stereotypes.
The children’s comic “Cap Égalité”, illustrated and written by Anne Villeneuve, immerses us in the world of Anoushka, who finds herself in the merchant navy.
From Neuville to the Magdalen Islands and across Pessamite, the characters’ journey on the river holds many surprises. Throughout the story, they face many stereotypes and misunderstandings while navigating this predominantly male environment.
In addition to being funny and sensitive, the story is an educational tool that allows us to address gender equality, deconstruct stereotypes and awaken ideas of solidarity, mutual help and respect.
“Feminism and its advancements have always been part of my interests, both as a woman and as an artist. I create this comic and think that my two grandchildren will soon hold it in their hands and will also be architects of a more just and egalitarian future,” explained the author and illustrator of children’s books.
Anne Villeneuve will also be present at the comic’s launch late Tuesday afternoon at the National Archives in Montreal.
The comic Cap Égalité is currently available in recognized bookstores in Quebec and on the website of the publisher Les Publications du Québec. The book was designed to mark the 50th anniversary of the Quebec Status of Women Council.
